2015 Puerto Rico Holidays

Since Puerto Rico is a U.S. terriory, we celebrate the Federal Holidays as well as some of our own local holidays.

The 2015 Puerto Rico Holidays (both local and federal) are as follows:

January 1 (Thursday) New Year’s Day. (Stores and government offices closed)

January 6th (Tuesday) Epiphany or Three Kings’ Day (Stores and government offices closed)

January 19 (third Monday of the month) Dr. Martin Luther King (Government offices closed, stores open)

February 16 (third Monday of the month) George Washington Day, Presidents Day and Puerto Rican Day Heroes: Eugenio Maria de Hostos, José de Diego, Luis Muñoz Rivera, José CelsoBarbosa, Ramón EmeterioBetances, Roman Baldorioty Luis Muñoz Marín, Ernesto Ramos Antonini and Luis A. Ferré. (Government offices closed, stores open)

March 22 (Sunday) on Monday, March 23, 2015 Day for the Abolition of Slavery will be held. (Government offices closed, stores open)

April 3 (Friday) Good Friday. (Stores and government offices closed)

May 25 (last Monday of the month) Remembrance Day of the Dead in War (Memorial Day). (Government offices closed, stores open)

July 4 (Saturday) Independence Day in the United States. (Government offices closed, stores open)

July 25 (Saturday) Day of the Constitution of Puerto Rico. (Government offices closed, stores open)

September 7 (first Monday of the month) Labor Day. (Government offices closed, stores open)

October 12 (second Monday of the month) Columbus Day. (Government offices closed, stores open)

November 11 (Wednesday) Veterans Day. (Government offices closed, stores open)

November 19 (Thursday) Day of the Puerto Rican Culture and the Discovery of Puerto Rico. (Government offices closed, stores open)

November 26 (fourth Thursday of the month) Thanksgiving. (Stores and government offices closed)

December 24 (Thursday) Christmas Eve. (Government offices close at noon, stores open extended hours)

December 25 (Friday) Christmas Day (Stores and government offices closed)

 

It is also worth mentioning that stores will OPEN on Easter Sunday (April 5, 2015), but they will be CLOSED on Mother’s Day (May 10, 2015) as well as on Father’s Day (June 21, 2015).

This schedule may be subject to amendment by virtue of Act. 182 of December 1, 2010, the Governor or his designee, may, by proclamation that one day holiday will be observed on Monday or Friday it closer to the celebration of this day. Said proclamation shall be issued no later than January 15, 2015.
